    El potencial de la teoría cognitiva en la enseñanza de la contabilidad y auditoría

    El artículo examina la asimilación de dos conceptos contables complejos: la imagen fiel (TFV) y el valor razonable (FV) en una muestra de estudiantes de Contabilidad Financiera. El objetivo es evaluar la opinión de los estudiantes sobre TFV y FV durante su educación y detectar si las percepciones cambian con su nivel académico y madurez. La metodología utilizada es una encuesta de opinión. Las respuestas obtenidas muestran que los estudiantes consideran que la TFV es un concepto superior a otros principios contables. Además, en el estudio se observa que las respuestas de los estudiantes dependen del nivel académico y la madurez. Por último, se considera que los postulados que establece la teoría cognitiva podrían servir a los instructores en materia de contabilidad y organismos reguladores para mejorar el proceso de aprendizaje así como la calidad de la información financiera.This paper examines the understanding of two complex accounting concepts: true and fair view (TFV) and fair value (FV) by students in Financial Accounting. The correct assimilation of these concepts is assessed as to whether there are differences in concept perception due to academic level and maturity. We use a survey to examine the perception and assimilation of the TFV and FV. The evidence suggests that accounting students consider that TFV is a superior accounting concept over other accounting principles. Additionally, the study identifies a pattern of change depending on the academic level and maturity of the participants.     Does the pension system’s income statement really matter? A proposal for an NDC scheme with disability and minimum pension benefits

    This paper develops an accounting model for monitoring the solvency of a notional defined contribution (NDC) pension scheme with disability and minimum pension benefits. Using the annual report of the Swedish pension system as a benchmark, the “Swedish” actuarial balance is extended by adding an income statement fully explaining the reasons behind the changes in the system’s solvency by type of benefit. In line with the reference model, assets and liabilities are measured at present value at each reporting date, and in each period, included as income or expenses on the Income statement. This accounting framework integrates both contributory and social aspects of public pensions and discloses the real cost of the disability contingency and the redistribution through minimum pensions. Apart from Sweden, this proposal could be especially interesting for improving the reporting of public pensions in countries such as Poland, Italy, Latvia and Norway

    This paper, which is intended to be a long editorial note, aims to examine what we know and what we need to know about the auditing activity. Its main purpose is to point out research areas that allow us to learn something more about the auditor's function, audit techniques and, specially, its future that probably will be exposed to very significant swings and changes. The subjects will be divided into positive and institutional (critical) approaches with the objective of achieving a systematic group approximation. A taxonomy of research areas is also constructed, based on the model by the American Accounting Association (AAA). More than a mere description or classification , the main purpose is to make a broad review in order to identify possible research lines within a general perspective, considering both technical matters, which challenge the professional job, and socio-economic concerns, regarding the general interest of the audit activity

    The objective of this research is to analyse the impact of the new leasing regulation, IFRS 16 Leases, immediately after mandatory implementation, in the financial statements of Spanish Ibex 35 listed groups. The main reason for this research is the limited number of papers published to date that analyse the real impact of IFRS 16 after its recent entry into operation. Furthermore, the study focuses on an accounting standard which introduces important changes in leases, both from a conceptual and practical point of view. Therefore, our objective is to analyse and quantify the real effects of its application in the consolidated financial statements and on the main economic-financial ratios. At the same time, we present the current lines of research by the regulatory bodies in leasing and the adaptation of the lease standard as a result of COVID-19.El objetivo de este trabajo es analizar el impacto de la nueva normativa de arrendamientos, inmediatamente después de su implantación obligatoria, en los estados financieros de los grupos españoles cotizados del Ibex 35. La principal motivación para realizar la presente investigación es el número limitado de trabajos publicados hasta este momento que analicen el impacto real de la NIIF 16 debido a su reciente entrada en vigor. Además, el trabajo se centra en una norma contable que introduce cambios importantes en materia de arrendamientos, tanto desde el punto de vista conceptual como práctico. Por tanto, nuestro objetivo es analizar y cuantificar los efectos reales de la NIIF 16 en los estados financieros consolidados, así como en las principales ratios económico-financieras.     Cognitive load theory: limiting the gap between Academics and students in accounting and auditing

    The objective of this paper is to investigate if academics and students share similar cognitive structures in relation to the True and Fair View (TFV) concept, a complex accounting principle, which has no official definition and is open to interpretation and professional judgement. A survey method was used to obtain data for this study. The survey allows us to explore academics and students cognitive structures in order to discover differences and the reasons for the variances if any. Our results show that academics and students do not share similar cognitive structures in three areas of interest: i) compliance with accounting rules and the fulfilment of True and Fair View, ii) the need to provide a written definition of True and Fair View, and iii) the interpretation of True and Fair View. The evidence can be interpreted due to the fact that academics and students tend to use different cognitive schemes in problem solving at least in complex concepts such as TFV. The evidence is supported by the cognitive load theory (CLT). We believe that useful financial information can be improved by understanding these differences and by subsequently implementing criteria in order to reduce the gap between academics and students in the area of information comprehension and presentation with the use of schemes, improvement in educational material and other assistance in the application and interpretation of written standards.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Using the annual report of the Swedish pension system as a benchmark (TSPS, 2018), we extend the “Swedish” actuarial balance developed by Pérez-Salamero et al. (2017) by adding an income statement which fully explains the reasons behind the changes in the system’s solvency by type of benefit. In line with the reference model, assets and liabilities are measured at present value at each reporting date, and changes in present value are reported in each period as income or expenses and are included on the income statement. Our proposed model is a step forward because it, also, incorporates the changes for disability pensions, the value of change in the discount rate and the explicit recognition of non-contributory rights (NCRs) into the Income statement. This accounting framework integrates both contributory and social aspects of public pensions and discloses the real cost of the disability contingency and the redistribution through minimum pensions. The paper contains a numerical example consisting of an income statement for a (fictional) already-functioning system to illustrate the main differences between the Swedish NDC scheme and our model.     Level of agreement between frequently used cardiovascular risk calculators in people living with HIV

    Objectives The aim of the study was to describe agreement between the QRISK2, Framingham and Data Collection on Adverse Events of Anti‐HIV Drugs (D:A:D) cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk calculators in a large UK study of people living with HIV (PLWH). Methods PLWH enrolled in the Pharmacokinetic and Clinical Observations in People over Fifty (POPPY) study without a prior CVD event were included in this study. QRISK2, Framingham CVD and the full and reduced D:A:D CVD scores were calculated; participants were stratified into ‘low’ ( 20%) categories for each. Agreement between scores was assessed using weighted kappas and Bland–Altman plots. Results The 730 included participants were predominantly male (636; 87.1%) and of white ethnicity (645; 88.5%), with a median age of 53 [interquartile range (IQR) 49–59] years. The median calculated 10‐year CVD risk was 11.9% (IQR 6.8–18.4%), 8.9% (IQR 4.6–15.0%), 8.5% (IQR 4.8–14.6%) and 6.9% (IQR 4.1–11.1%) when using the Framingham, QRISK2, and full and reduced D:A:D scores, respectively. Agreement between the different scores was generally moderate, with the highest level of agreement being between the Framingham and QRISK2 scores (weighted kappa = 0.65) but with most other kappa coefficients in the 0.50–0.60 range. Conclusions Estimates of predicted 10‐year CVD risk obtained with commonly used CVD risk prediction tools demonstrate, in general, only moderate agreement among PLWH in the UK. While further validation with clinical endpoints is required, our findings suggest that care should be taken when interpreting any score alone

    The Long-Baseline Neutrino Experiment: Exploring Fundamental Symmetries of the Universe

    The preponderance of matter over antimatter in the early Universe, the dynamics of the supernova bursts that produced the heavy elements necessary for life and whether protons eventually decay --- these mysteries at the forefront of particle physics and astrophysics are key to understanding the early evolution of our Universe, its current state and its eventual fate. The Long-Baseline Neutrino Experiment (LBNE) represents an extensively developed plan for a world-class experiment dedicated to addressing these questions. LBNE is conceived around three central components: (1) a new, high-intensity neutrino source generated from a megawatt-class proton accelerator at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, (2) a near neutrino detector just downstream of the source, and (3) a massive liquid argon time-projection chamber deployed as a far detector deep underground at the Sanford Underground Research Facility. This facility, located at the site of the former Homestake Mine in Lead, South Dakota, is approximately 1,300 km from the neutrino source at Fermilab -- a distance (baseline) that delivers optimal sensitivity to neutrino charge-parity symmetry violation and mass ordering effects. This ambitious yet cost-effective design incorporates scalability and flexibility and can accommodate a variety of upgrades and contributions. With its exceptional combination of experimental configuration, technical capabilities, and potential for transformative discoveries, LBNE promises to be a vital facility for the field of particle physics worldwide, providing physicists from around the globe with opportunities to collaborate in a twenty to thirty year program of exciting science.     Updated Guidance Regarding The Risk ofAllergic Reactions to COVID-19 Vaccines and Recommended Evaluation and Management: A GRADE Assessment, and International Consensus Approach

    This guidance updates 2021 GRADE (Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation) recommendations regarding immediate allergic reactions following coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccines and addresses revaccinating individuals with first-dose allergic reactions and allergy testing to determine revaccination outcomes. Recent meta-analyses assessed the incidence of severe allergic reactions to initial COVID-19 vaccination, risk of mRNA-COVID-19 revaccination after an initial reaction, and diagnostic accuracy of COVID-19 vaccine and vaccine excipient testing in predicting reactions. GRADE methods informed rating the certainty of evidence and strength of recommendations. A modified Delphi panel consisting of experts in allergy, anaphylaxis, vaccinology, infectious diseases, emergency medicine, and primary care from Australia, Canada, Europe, Japan, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United States formed the recommendations. We recommend vaccination for persons without COVID-19 vaccine excipient allergy and revaccination after a prior immediate allergic reaction. We suggest against \u3e 15-minute postvaccination observation. We recommend against mRNA vaccine or excipient skin testing to predict outcomes. We suggest revaccination of persons with an immediate allergic reaction to the mRNA vaccine or excipients be performed by a person with vaccine allergy expertise in a properly equipped setting. We suggest against premedication, split-dosing, or special precautions because of a comorbid allergic history
